Twenty three years old Hindu male from an engineering college was admitted in psychiatry ward with chief complaints of disturbed sleep, poor self-care, reduced interaction with people and sudden outburst of anger with aggressive behaviour leading to destruction of articles and self harms for last one month. During psychodiagnostic procedure, patient complained of always feeling tired, depressed and not getting interest in any work. He was on medication.

Test administered Rorschach.

Test findings Patient was intelligent but there was a feeling of rejection, depression and organicity. Patient responded more whole than detail which shows that he was facing stress and anxiety with maladjustment. It also revealed that patient had tendencies of negativism. He had been suffering from impulsiveness such as aggressiveness, distractibility, irresponsibility and emotional immaturity.

Summary The patient was cooperative during assessment. He was observed to be mildly restless. He had no sensory or motor deficit. Patient was advised counseling and behaviour modification for behavioural problem.

Counseling During the counseling, patient disclosed that his childhood was very painful. He was good student but he did not get proper guidance. His mother was poor and their livelihood was on her daily wages. When he was at class X, his father came to stay with them but earlier he seldom visited them and stayed for only two to three days. During this period, his father used to have sexual relation with his mother. If his mother denied, he started physical assault in front of all the family members. The patient requested his mother to leave his father but she denied saying that every family required father for identity. Subsequently, he became upset thinking that his mother also did not love him. From then he started to stay alone and disliked talking with others. His problem may have started slowly at that time.

Draw A Person (DAP) test He had drawn male and female figures. By the side of the female figure, he drew a three-dimensional square saying that he was more interested in them being a student of engineering rather than human figures.
